Photosensitivity
Angelica, Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, other citrus oils and oil blends containing these oils are photosensitive and may cause a rash or dark pigmentation on skin exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays within 1-2 days after application.
Hot Oils
Always dilute with a carrier oil before application. Some of the essential oils considered “HOT” are Lemongrass, Oregano, Thyme, Cinnamon Bark and Thieves blend. Should any essential oil enter the eyes accidentally, DO NOT FLUSH WITH WATER. Dilute with lots of carrier oil such as V6 or organic extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil etc. Water will amplify the effect of essential oils while carrier oil will slow down the absorption rate hence bringing comfort to the affected area.
Pregnancy
The decision to use essential oils during pregnancy can be a difficult one. There are a wide variety of opinions on the matter, often with conflicting and confusing claims. For example, some women choose to avoid excessive use of these specific oils: Clary Sage or Sage, Idaho Tansy or Hyssop, Fennel, Wintergreen as well as blends and supplements that contain these oils. However, essential oil usage is a personal choice, and there are no hard-and-fast rules.
Children
While children generally respond well to essential oils, we recommend that they be diluted before use. Some of our blends are pre-diluted with carrier oil and are intended for direct application on children. However, as the respiratory system of young children (below 30 months) are not fully developed yet, we recommend that you avoid letting them inhale essential oils that are more stimulating, such as Peppermint. Application on the bottoms of the feet diluted with carrier oil is safest when in doubt. For infants, essential oils such as Lemon, Gentle Baby and Myrtle are gentle enough for them. You may either diffuse them or apply on the bottoms of their feet diluted with carrier oil.
Detoxing
When you use essential oils, drink lots of water to support the detoxification process of your body so that toxins may be purged out through excretion or perspiration. As essential oils are good at pulling toxins out of the body, and the skin being the largest organ, without sufficient water, toxins may surface up to the skin causing irritation. When that happens, please stop usage of essential oils for about a week and apply V-6 or any other carrier oil generously. Toxins could have accumulated in your body over time through the use of personal/household products containing chemicals. It is recommended you stop the use of products containing chemicals. Allow the body to rest and regenerate itself. However, in rare cases where the irritation continues, please seek medical attention.
On Medication
Please seek advise from your medical doctor prior to using any essential oils.
